Sexually Transmissible Infections Modelling Group

The research conducted in the Sexually Transmissible Infections (STI) Modelling Group focuses on using mathematical modelling to provide insights to the transmission dynamics and epidemiology of infectious diseases in high-risk and vulnerable populations and to evaluate public health interventions for their control and prevention.

The group has a strong focus on STIs including gonorrheoa, syphilis, trichomoniasis, chlamydia and human papillomavirus (HPV). Research in this area includes evaluation of screening and vaccination programs, strategies for mitigation of antimicrobial resistance, and exploring factors contributing to the increasing incidence of many STIs. In addition to STIs, the group conducts research on other infectious diseases including varicella zoster, hepatitis A, scabies and other neglected tropical diseases, and most recently COVID-19.

Our work is, by necessity, multidisciplinary and we collaborate widely both across other Programs at the Kirby Institute and with a wide network of external researchers both nationally and internationally.
