A year of impact: Kirby Institute’s 2024 annual report is here

From game-changing donations to global collaborations, these are some of the Kirby Institute’s biggest moments from 2024.

The latest annual report from the Kirby Institute at UNSW Sydney is now available, showcasing a year of groundbreaking research, global partnerships and real-world impact in infectious disease and public health.

Highlights include:

•    A record $25.9 million philanthropic donation to support cervical cancer elimination in the Pacific
•    Federal budget support for Medicare rebates on molecular point-of-care STI testing in remote communities across Australia
•    A 33 per cent decrease in HIV diagnoses in Australia over the past decade
•    The launch of a new research program to enhance sexual, reproductive and maternal health in low- and middle-income countries across the Asia-Pacific region
•    1,047 collaborations spanning 53 countries across six continents.

Kirby Institute Director and Scientia Professor Anthony Kelleher said: “It is incredibly fulfilling to see the dedication of our researchers, the achievements of our staff and students, and the impact of our work continuing to reinforce the Institute’s reputation as being at the forefront of infectious disease research and public health.
