Associate Professor Lucette Cysique will deliver a talk titled: A review of the Long COVID Australian research: lessons learnt and recommendations for future research.
A/Prof Cysique has completed a comprehensive review of Australian research on Long COVID, conducted under the auspices of the APPRISE (Australian Partnership for Preparedness Research on Infectious Disease Emergencies) Long COVID Initiative. She will present the key findings of this review, share critical lessons learned, and offer forward-looking recommendations to guide future research with international relevance.
Dr Brendan Jacka will deliver a talk titled: Trajectories of health-related quality of life two years after mild/moderate SARS-CoV-2 Infection in the pre-Omicron era.
Few studies have comprehensively and longitudinally assessed health outcomes for people with Long COVID following mild/moderate infection. Dr Jacka will discuss how the Wilson-Cleary model of health-related quality of life (HRQOL) was applied to describe the impact of Long COVID on multiple health dimensions up to 24 months following mild/moderate COVID-19. Long COVID was associated with poorer health outcomes across all Wilson-Cleary health domains at first assessment, with little improvement over two years. Multimodal interventions must address impairment in multiple domains of HRQOL in individuals with Long COVID.

A/Prof Cysique is a cross-disciplinary neuropsychologist who leads a research program into the brain health of major infectious diseases across several institutions (Kirby Institute, UNSW School of Psychology, Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute at St. Michael’s Hospital, Toronto, Canada, and St. Vincent's Hospital Sydney campus). She is also a co-investigator of the Doherty Institute-based APPRISE Long COVID Initiative, which aims to describe Long COVID disease burden in Australia using the well-recognised post-infective fatigue syndrome framework. | |
