The Therapeutic and Vaccine Research Program (TVRP) designs, delivers and implements infectious diseases clinical research that improves treatment, strengthens health systems and advances health equity for key populations. TVRP combines innovative clinical trials with real-world evidence, laboratory science and large dataset research. TVRP has helped define current global standards of HIV treatment and is leading a new generation of studies focused on optimising therapy for resource-limited settings and reducing the long-term health impacts of HIV worldwide. Our program also conducts research in hepatitis B, COVID-19 and other emerging and established infectious diseases. Our work helps answer practical questions about which infectious disease treatments work best, for whom and in which settings.
Our team provides global leadership as the Sydney International Coordinating Centre for the STRIVE network—a major international collaboration conducting large clinical trials in current and emerging infectious diseases. STRIVE includes more than 300 sites in 30 countries.
TVRP works with investigators and clinical sites across Asia (Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, South Korea and India), Africa (Nigeria, Uganda, Zimbabwe and South Africa), South America (Argentina) and other international partner settings. We maintain productive collaborations with UNITAID, the World Health Organization, the UK Medical Research Council, the US National Cancer Institute and the US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
